Traditionally the seat of Christianity in England; once visited by Joseph of Arimathea, his staff becoming the Holy Thorn tree that grows here and blossoms twice a year: and legendary burial place of King Arthur and his Queen Guinevere.

As well as the original Abbey buildings, the site has a wealth of other attractions. For instance our living History characters, from April to October.

These actors are able to offer a unique insight into the lives of those who lived and worked at the Abbey many centuries ago; usually they perform in the Abbots Kitchen where we are endeavouring to create an authentic medieval kitchen environment. Our Visitor Centre completes the experience with original exhibits and model of the Abbey on display.
