Salisbury Cathedral
Discover over 750 years of history at Britain’s finest 13th Century Cathedral! The inspiration of artists, writers and poets, Salisbury Cathedral is set in the beautiful landscape of Britain’s largest Close, surrounded by historic buildings and over 8 acres of lawns.
Built in just 38 years, Salisbury Cathedral is unique for its one architectural style Early English Gothic.
Explore the many fine treasures that form an important part of our heritage. As well as the finest of only four surviving Magna Carta (AD 1215), often said to be the most important constitutional document of all time, you can discover Europe’s oldest working Clock (AD 1386) and the medieval stone frieze in the Chapter House.
Salisbury Cathedral has some fine pieces of art, including stunning engravings by Laurence Whistler, windows by William Morris & Co. and Gabriel Loire and sculptures by Elizabeth Frink and Mary Spencer Watson.
Explore the roof spaces with one of our volunteer guides on a tower tour. As you climb 332 steps up narrow spiral staircases (in easy stages) you will see how this magnificent gothic building was constructed. Experience breathtaking views down the length of the Nave as well as out across the city of Salisbury and up into Britain’s tallest spire.
All are welcome to our daily services, sung by our boy and girl choristers.
